Create Key
The Create Key page is used to create a new key template that will be managed by the system. In the Keys module, a key template refers to the definition of the key, for example, the type, status, and features of the key. The actual physical keys that are created from this definition are referred to as key copies.
When you create a key template, you define it by entering basic information, such as the key number, status and type as well as information about the physical characteristics of the key. Once created, you can define additional information including information about the available key copies and the assets (often doors or locks) that they key unlocks.
To create a key template:
-
Access the Create Key page by clicking the Keys option in the side navigation pane.
The Keys module pages appear in a drop-down menu in the side navigation pane.
-
Select the Create Key Template option.
The Create Key page opens, displaying the Key Template Details tab where you can specify information about the new key template.

This value is required and must unique within the Keys module. The system suggests a default key number by incrementing the most recently created key number by 1.
